EASTWOOD
Set amid Eastwood’s leafy avenues and federation‑era homes, this project transforms a formerly under‑used rear lawn into a secluded resort‑style retreat tailored for multigenerational living. The design borrows from the suburb’s garden heritage, weaving warm timber accents, fern‑green planting and a reflective water surface that mirrors towering jacarandas through spring. Sliding stacker doors now connect the family room to a flush‑level hardwood deck, creating one continuous plane between house and pool and inviting effortless, year‑round outdoor entertaining.
The 9 m × 4.5 m rectangular shell is framed by a travertine border that continues into oversize steppers meandering through a subtropical planting bed—softening the geometry while guiding bare feet from house to water. A full‑width bench extends along the western edge, integrating hydrotherapy jets for evening relaxation without stealing lap length. Within, a gradient of silver‑blue glass mosaics deepens the colour of the water while remaining sympathetic to the muted tones of the surrounding landscape. A raised spill‑wall at the rear doubles as a feature blade fountain, providing gentle acoustic masking from nearby traffic.
Sustainability underpins every choice: a 12 kW inverter heat‑pump draws on surplus power from the property’s rooftop solar array; an automatic slatted cover (concealed in a hidden pit) traps warmth, reduces evaporation by up to 90 %, and offers a secondary layer of child safety. A variable‑speed pump, oversized cartridge filter, and mineral‑magnesium sanitation deliver crystal water with whisper‑quiet operation and minimal chemical demand—ideal for sensitive skin. All functions, from spa jets and coloured LEDs to temperature and water‑feature schedules, are orchestrated through an intuitive smartphone app, giving the owners fingertip control whether they’re home or away.
