MALABAR

Perched on an elevated block just two streets back from Malabar Beach, this project set out to capture the drama of the headland and the ever‑changing Pacific. The design team oriented the pool on a precise 17‑degree angle so that, the moment you step onto the deck, water, sky, and sea cliffs align in a single cinematic frame. A vanishing (infinity) edge on the eastern boundary lets the turquoise surface appear to spill straight toward the horizon, while low‑iron glass fencing dissolves visual barriers between backyard and ocean outlook.

The pool itself is a geometric 10 m × 4 m shell with a full‑width beach entry that transitions into a 900 mm‑deep lounging shelf—perfect for sun‑soaked relaxation or supervised toddler play.

Beyond the shelf, the floor steps down to a 2.2 m plunge zone for diving and lap practice. A honed‑porcelain coping, colour‑matched to the coastal sandstone, runs seamlessly into slip‑resistant porcelain deck pavers that shrug off salt spray. Structural engineering addressed a steep, wind‑exposed site: micro‑piles sock‑drilled into bedrock anchor the pool, and a hidden balance tank beneath the deck manages infinity‑edge surge without occupying yard space.

Residents enjoy year‑round swimming thanks to a 15 kW inverter heat‑pump powered by the home’s solar array and battery storage, keeping operating costs ultra‑low. A mineral‑magnesium sanitation system, backed by UV sterilisation, delivers crystal‑clear, silky water with minimal chlorine. All hardware—pump, filter, heater, water‑feature blade, and RGB LED lighting—is tied into an app‑based automation hub that supports voice control. Even maintenance is automated: an in‑floor self‑cleaning network sweeps debris toward an oversized leaf canister, letting the owners spend more time in the water and less time working on it.
